Western Bulk is a trading oriented and asset-light dry bulk operator, exploiting technology, analytics and risk management to succeed in a highly competitive and global shipping market. Currently (2019), WB is running a fleet of about 150 Supramax and Handysize vessels. The company has offices in Oslo, Singapore, Seattle, Santiago de Chile and Morocco.

Through its global trading pattern and operational expertise, WB seeks to offer flexible, high-quality freight services to its customers.  A culture of commercially aimed risk management is embedded throughout the organization, where all teams make continuous efforts to understand how different risks and market dynamics affect the company's bottom line. The combination of commercial and analytical methods has made WB into a cutting-edge freight trading company that has established a track record for delivering robust results through the market cycle. Each of WB's five business units operates as decentralized profit centers, using ships, cargoes and derivatives for directional play and arbitrage in the market. Risk management is a central part of WB's trading model. The Risk management team has direct reporting lines to the management and provides the different business units with analysis of exposures, insights, management of risk limits, risk optimization and counterpart approval.
